It was more than 2 years ago while Rob and I were discussing the possibility of a cross Canada trip, when I mentioned, “Why don’t we do it by bike?” And a seed was planted into our tiny, obsessive brains.
Thankfully Rob has plenty of experience riding a bike. In his youth he used to ride a Phillips 10 speed racing bike as you see in the picture. He tells me it was considered very high tech for the time. He fondly reminisces about the time when he rode down Bairds hill, near Enderby, clocking out at more than 40 mph! (76km) .
On the other hand, I haven’t seriously ridden a bike for many years. I’d guess at around 40 give or take a few. But how hard can it be, really? Well, to start out with, there ARE the Rockies to cross……….Nevermind we can always catch a train over the tough spots. It will be glorious! A trip of a lifetime! And so the planning began, scouring over maps, devouring bike blogs and dreaming and obsessing. At first we were reluctant to share our plans with anyone. Would they think we were nutcrackers? Out of our minds? Loco?
An example of crazy is an idea that makes absolutely no sense.
But share we did, and now, it’s becoming a solid plan, it’s starting to grow and perhaps we’re not so crazy after all. We have, however, decided on a change in destination. Stay tuned to find out where. There’s no turning back now!
